🧳 Mallorca offers a fascinating mix of Gothic architecture, spectacular mountain ranges, and idyllic coastal towns. This calendar features 12 of the island's most important sights and places:
1. Palma Cathedral (La Seu): The landmark of the island's capital is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Particularly impressive are the enormous rose window and the architectural modifications, on which Antoni Gaudí, among others, participated.
2. Cap de Formentor: The northernmost tip of Mallorca offers one of the most spectacular coastal landscapes in the Mediterranean. A winding panoramic road leads to the famous lighthouse with breathtaking views of the steep cliffs.
3. Serra de Tramuntana: This mountain range in the northwest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a paradise for hikers and cyclists and is home to charming villages, olive groves and deep gorges.
4. Valldemossa: A picturesque mountain village known for its Carthusian monastery. Frédéric Chopin and George Sand spent the winter of 1838/39 here. Its flower-adorned streets make it one of the most photographed places on the island.
5. Cuevas del Drach (Dragon Caves): Located near Porto Cristo, this cave system is home to one of the largest underground lakes in the world, Llac Martel. Visitors can enjoy classical music during a boat trip.
6. Sóller and the "Red Lightning": The town of Sóller lies in a fertile valley full of orange trees. A particularly popular attraction is the ride on the historic wooden railway, the Ferrocarril de Sóller, from Palma through the mountains.
7. Bellver Castle: A rare, circular Gothic castle that towers above Palma. From up there you have a fantastic panoramic view of the Bay of Palma and the Tramuntana Mountains.
8. Santuari de Lluc: The spiritual center of Mallorca lies deep in the Tramuntana mountains. The monastery is an important pilgrimage site and houses the Black Madonna "La Moreneta".
9. Alcúdia: The historic old town is surrounded by a completely preserved medieval city wall. The ruins of the Roman city of Pollentia are also located nearby.
10. Sa Calobra and Torrent de Pareis: This bay, where a powerful torrent plunges into the sea between towering cliffs, is reached via an adventurous, winding road. A unique natural wonder.
11. Es Trenc: This vast, unspoiled natural beach in the south of the island is often referred to as the "Caribbean of Mallorca" because of its white sand and turquoise waters.
12. Pollença: A small town steeped in history in the north. Particularly famous is the Calvary Hill (El Calvari), whose chapel is reached by climbing 365 steps and offers a wonderful view of the surrounding area.
